Job Opening

Business Development Representative #1

Alium is excited to hire our very first Business Development Representative!

What’s a Business Development Representative?

Very simply, a Business Development Representative (BDR) is an entry-level sales position. BDRs are responsible for finding new sales leads. Which is to say, reaching out to folks and enticing them to take a sales call with us. Emails. Phone calls. Whatever it takes.

Competitive salary and equity aside, you will be compensated on two things: 1) number of qualified leads, i.e. good phone calls, scheduled and 2) closed-won business, i.e. money we make as a result of your efforts.

Who is Alium?

One answer in two parts: 1) who are the people behind Alium? and 2) what do we do?

The people

Alium is founded by CB Insights alums. Jon(athan) Sherry co-founded CB Insights and was their COO for 11 years. Alex(andre) Testu was employee #4 at CB Insights, and played instrumental roles in establishing and scaling the company’s product and engineering orgs. Both oversaw growth from a few people in a dimly lit shoebox to what it is today: a leading market intelligence platform that is slated to achieve over $100 million in revenue in 2022.

Alium’s team is still small, but extends far beyond its founders. We are building an amazingly talented, hungry and “human” team. That last one is a concise way of saying “life is short - we’re done working with assholes”.

The product

Alium is a commercial intelligence solution that leverages buyer insights to help our customers drive more revenue. Our customers are revenue leaders within technology companies: CROs, CMOs, product marketers, etc.

We could go into length about our product, but frankly, we’re in semi-stealth mode. We’ll fill you in on the rest when we chat. And no, there won’t be any NDAs or any of that nonsense. We’re just not fully “out there” yet so prefer to keep it short and sweet (even though we do have real customers, revenue and venture investors including Primary and Greycroft).

Where is this job located?

Anywhere, USA. It’s remote. And by remote, that’s not a short term thing. We intend to build a fully remote / distributed workforce.

You just need to be authorized to work in the US and willing to make calls during US business hours. Only travel required is for occasional team offsites.

What are the BDR’s responsibilities and requirements?

We’ll spare you the bullets. As a BDR, you will be doing a ton of sales outreach. You will get plenty of help and oversight, but self-direction is a must.

We don’t care if you have a college degree. If you’re hungry, communicate well (both verbally and written), can learn CRM / sales automation technologies, are a good-hearted person and are ready to put in the work, we’d love to meet you.

Where does this job lead?

The next logical step is Account Executive, i.e. closer. If Alium grows the way we plan to, you will have the opportunity to grow in dog years.

Who will this role report to?

Alium’s first BDR will report to Alium’s CEO / founder, Jon Sherry.

Why shouldn't you apply for this position?

Joining Alium comes with many benefits, including the excitement of building something from the ground up with frontline access to founders and limitless career potential.

But there are reasons this might not be the right gig as well. For example, if you crave established infrastructure, formal training programs, clearly-mapped career progression paths, products that won’t change a whole lot, a big team of BDRs to bullshit with on day one, a formal office to report to everyday, etc. then this isn’t the right position for you.

How do I know if Alium is my kind of people?

Meet us. If you still have doubts (or even if you don’t), we’ll set you up with references to call. We can find plenty of SDRs, AEs and sales leaders who’ve worked for or with us in the past. They can speak to the kinds of people we are, and then of course it’s up to you!

How do I apply?

Email Jon and Alex at jon@alium.io and alex@alium.io, respectively.

Thanks.

We can’t wait to meet you!
